The main purpose of this article is to aid in the construction of Portable Windows.
Windows are little more than fancy Doors, insofar as this setting is concerned. The most common window is simply a Light door with the No Door modifier and possibly Glass. Windows that include shutters leave out the No Door modifier.
To build a window instead of a door, use the following table to include window-style features:
| Feature | Cost | Weight | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Frame | +0.6 CF | +0 WF | Adds a frame that slides up to open the window; an extra fixed frame is included in the price Alternatively, this can be a single frame with glass that opens like a regular door Must be combined with Glass, Greased Paper, Metalwork, Tempered Glass or Stained Glass This may include a lock for half the usual price of the lock/hinge combo of a door Some kind of simple latch may be added at no extra cost in the absence of a lock |
| Glass | $1 per square foot | +3 lbs. per square foot | DR 1 glass that shatters if penetrated Without Frame, this means the window can't be opened |
| Greased Paper | +0.05 CF | +0 WF | This allows light through and blocks light winds. Any damage at all easily tears through it |
| Metalwork | +1 CF | +0.6 WF | Adds a work of metal mesh, bars, etc. Artistic metalwork costs more This is often added outside windows The stats for this are as per Metalwork (see p. DF2:18) |
| No Door | -0.3 CF | -0.9 WF | Without other modifiers, this becomes a hole in the wall, likely with a nice frame and sill Make sure you leave out the lock/hinge |
| Stained Glass | $50 per square foot | +3 lbs. per square foot | As Glass, see p. DF8:27 for more details May be combined with Tempered Glass for greater durability |
| Tempered Glass | $200 per square foot | +3 lbs. per square foot | As Glass, but DR is 5. |
Please note that this table uses a Weight Factor that works in the same fashion as a Cost Factor (see p. DF1:26).
