Doors

Doors

Dungeon Fantasy 2 includes statistics for doors (see DF2:18). However, since there is a spell in this setting to turn a loose door into a magic item, the following tables should be helpful for figuring the cost of these magic items. These rules are meant for purchasing doors, not selling them as loot, so adventurers intent on making the maximum profit off of each dungeon delve should be disappointed if they start tearing doors out of walls to drag them to town.

These prices and weights assume the door frame is included and that it's sized such that one man could block it by standing in it. Lock/hinge cost should be figured separately and added to the final cost of the door. Smaller doors may be handled using the rules for Tiny Tools (see DF3:8). Mundane tiny doors multiply the cost, DR and HP by the weight modifier. Larger doors can be handled using the Armor for Giants rule (see DF1:28). This doubles the HP of the door. Size adjustments normally also affect the lock and hinge statistics.

Doors with locks come with two keys. Locksmiths can make copies for $3 each, modified by the quality cost factor.

Some of the armor modifiers (see DF1:27) are appropriate for doors and their locks. Locks and hinges are always metal by default, but armor modifiers that require metal armor can only be applied to an Iron door. However, the Dwarven modifier should always be allowed: this just indicates a thicker door. Anything that adds to DR also increases HP by 10% per extra DR.

Some of the armor enchantments are also appropriate. Any of the Lighten enchantments would be especially useful for lugging a door around, but the Useful Item spell is what's usually used to make these items portable.

Lock/Hinge Construction Value
Light $20
Average $80
Heavy $180
X-Heavy $320
Vault $500

If the door has no lock, this halves the value. Adding a bar to the door costs half the values listed above and is unaffected by Lock/Hinge Quality (next table).
